Davis, Kier Share Player of the Week Honors; Osunniyi Named Rookie of the Week

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Atlantic 10 Conference has named Dayton sophomore Jordan Davis and George Mason junior Justin Kier as its Co-Players of the Week. St. Bonaventure freshman Osun Osunniyi was chosen as the league’s Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced Monday and are for games played Jan. 7 -13.

Davis led Dayton to a pair of wins with two 20-point performances. A guard from Irmo, S.C., he scored a career-high 25 points in the Flyers' come-from-behind win at George Washington, and then 21 in Sunday's win over UMass. Against the Colonials, Davis scored 20 of his 25 in the second half to spark the Flyer rally, hitting 7-for-11 (.636) from 3-point range. Davis had the primary defensive responsibility on Terry Nolan, Jr., who was held to six points.  In the UMass game, six of his seven made baskets came from beyond the arc, where he was 6-of-8 (.750) en route to his 21 points.  For the week, Davis averaged 23.0 points and shot a red-hot .684 (13-for-19) from 3-point range.

Kier averaged 22.5 points, 11.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and shot 63.6 percent from the floor in two games for Mason. On Sunday in the Patriots’ 84-67 victory at Rhode Island, the guard from Grottoes, Va., poured in a game-high 19 points on 8-of-10 (.800) shooting while grabbing 10 rebounds to post his sixth double-double in the past seven games. He scored 13 of his 19 points in the second half. On Wednesday in the Patriots’ close loss to Davidson, Kier tallied a game-high 26 points, swishing 6-of-12 (.500) from the field and a career-high 13-of-14 (.929) at the charity stripe. Kier accounted for nearly half of Mason’s point total and gave the Patriots a chance to win the game. Kier also dished out four assists and posted three steals against Davidson.

In a 2-0 week, Osunniyi averaged a double-double of 13 points and 12 rebounds per game. The center from Pleasantville, N.J., collected four blocks and five assists and was 11-for-16 (.688) from the field. He had 10 points and a season-high 12 rebounds against Saint Joseph's, then scored a season best 16 points to go with 12 rebounds, three blocks and three assists in the win over Fordham. Osunniyi now has 3 double-doubles this season.

Davidson’s Kellan Grady averaged 19 points a game, including 12 points during the 'Cats 24-7 rally against VCU to close the game … Dayton freshman Dwayne Cohill was 3-of-5 from the field for seven points off the bench in the Flyers’ comeback win at GW  … Eric Williams, Jr. had a 16-point, 13-rebound double-double with two assists and a steal in Duquesne’s win over Fordham … Duquesne freshman Sincere Carry had eight assists, five steals, 12 rebounds and 18 points in the Dukes two wins, including shooting 7-for-11 (.636) from the field and 3-of-4 (.750) from 3-point range … Freshman Jordan Miller scored 14 points in his George Mason debut, hitting 6-of-8 from the field with two blocks and two steals  … Rhode Island’s Jeff Dowtin  averaged 19.5 points and 4.5 assists in a split week for the Rams, including a 25-point, five-assist performance in Rhody’s road win at Richmond … Rhode Island freshman Tyrese Martin scored 10 points and dished out two assists in each game, while grabbing seven rebounds at Richmond and five versus Mason … St. Bonaventure’s LaDarien Griffin led the Bonnies to a pair of wins with 18 points, 6.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists, 1.0 steals and 1.0 blocks per game … Charlie Brown, Jr., averaged 19.5 points per game in two games, including a 28-point effort at Duquesne, where he matched his season-high with four three-pointers … Hasahn French was had a monster 25-point, six-rebound performance against UMass, with three blocks and three steals, and then had a 12-point, 10-rebound double-double in a win at La Salle.
