Trzewik-Quinn, Brunner, Hart Claim A-10 Swimming & Diving Weekly Awards

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Massachusetts sophomore Seamus Trzewik-Quinn was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Men’s Swimming and Diving Performer of the Week while Fordham’s Tara Brunner and St. Bonaventure’s Brittany Hart shared Women’s Performer of the Week accolades, the league announced Tuesday. Davidson freshman Thacher Scannell and Fordham freshman Kiara Norris were named Men’s and Women’s Rookies of the week, respectively. The awards are for meets held from Jan. 28 - Feb. 3.

 

Trzewik-Quinn won a pair of backstroke events as the Minutemen picked up a 156-144 win on the road at Fordham in their final meet before the Atlantic 10 Championships. The New Paltz, N.Y., native won the first individual event of the day for UMass with a top time of 51.22 in the 100-yard Backstroke to lead a Minuteman one-two finish. The sophomore capped off his day by clocking in a time of 1:51.86 to win the 200-yard Backstroke later in the meet.

 

Brunner had a banner day on Fordham’s Senior Day this past Saturday in a win over UMass. She won the 50-yard (23.86) and 100-yard freestyle (51.31) events while being a part of both winning relays as the 200-yard medley relay clocked in at 1:46.05 and the 200-yard freestyle relay finished in 1:36.06.

 

Hart was the winner of both diving boards Saturday against Niagara. In the 1-meter dive, she won with a total score of 280.42 and won the 3-meter board, registering a 295.95 total score.

 

Scannell took home two first-place finishes at Gardner-Webb Saturday for the Wildcats. He won the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 1:41.85 for a pool record and the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 4:42.40. The freshman from Stamford, Conn., also swam on the 400-yard freestyle relay team that set a pool record with a time of 3:07:10 in the day's final event.

 

Norris won the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 57.78 on Saturday, while being a part of the winning 200-yard freestyle relay (1:36.06). The freshman from Collierville, Tenn., also took second as a part of the 200-yard medley relay "B" team in 1:47.83, while grabbing fourth in the 200-yard butterfly (2:13.54).
