Gilyard Named A-10 Player of the Week, Honor Selected as Rookie of the Week
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Atlantic 10 Conference has named Richmond sophomore Jacob Gilyard as its Player of the Week and Fordham freshman Nick Honor as the league’s Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced Monday and are for games played Feb. 4-10.
A guard from Kansas City, Gilyard totaled 45 points, 11 assists, 10 steals, and six rebounds while shooting 64 percent (16-for-25) from the floor and 57.1 percent (8-of-14) from 3-point range in a pair of Spider wins. He played all 40 minutes against George Mason and led Spiders in points (28), assists (six), steals (six), and rebounds (five), making him the first Division I player to post that many points/assists/steals/rebounds in a game since December 2017. Gilyard then led the Spiders with 17 points, five assists, and four steals in a win over George Washington.
Honor averaged 18 points and 5.5 assists per game in a split week for Fordham. The guard from Orlando dished out 11 assists with no turnovers and shot .412 (7-17) from behind the arc in the two games. He had 18 points and six assists in the win over Massachusetts, sinking 4-of-5 (.800) from 3-point range, and then followed that with 18 points and five assists versus Duquesne. It’s the fourth Rookie of the Week award this season for Honor.
Davidson’s Jon Axel Gudmundsson had a 20-point, 12-rebounds double-double with five assists and three steals in the Wildcats’ win over Rhode Island … Davidson freshman Luka Brajkovic scored 18 points on 7-of-10 (.700) shooting with nine rebounds, four assists and five blocks in that victory over the Rams … Jalen Crutcher scored 20 points with four rebounds and four assists in Dayton’s road win at Rhode Island … Flyer freshman Obi Toppin was 8-for-10 (.800) from the field for 19 points with four rebounds and three steals against Rhody … George Mason’s Otis Livingston II had 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting at Richmond, followed by 14 points with five assists in a home win over La Salle … Mason freshman Jordan Miller was 7-of-9 (.778) from the field for 14 points while adding in eight rebounds for the Patriots at Richmond … La Salle’s Saul Phiri was consistent, scoring 17 points and grabbing five rebounds in both games for the Explorers this week, including in a win over Saint Joseph’s in which he added four assists … Carl Pierre averaged 21 points on .652 (15-23) shooting, including a 23-point performance to propel Massachusetts past Davidson … Rhode Island’s Cyril Langevine had two double-doubles and averaged 19.5 points and 12.0 rebounds for Rhode Island last week … Charlie Brown, Jr. averaged 23.5 points per game last week for Saint Joseph's, including a 28-point, nine-rebound performance, where he hit 10-of-13 shots in an emotional win over Saint Louis … SJU freshman Jared Bynum had 20 points, five rebounds and six assists in the Hawks Friday win over Saint Louis.
