George Washington's Linquist name A-10 Softball Player of the Week; Lange Named Pitcher of the Week
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – George Washington junior Jessica Linquist was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Softball Player of the Week while her sophomore teammate Sierra Lange was named Pitcher of the Week, the league announced Monday. Dayton’s Megan Gist was named Rookie of the Week. The awards, the first of the 2019 season, were based off performances from Feb. 4-10.
Linquist posted a .438/.412/1.000 slash line to help GW post a winning opening weekend at the Gardner-Webb Tournament. She finished with four extra-base hits, including the first two home runs of her career, eight RBIs and five runs scored. Her best game came in Sunday's finale against Georgetown when she knocked in a career-high five runs.
Lange earned two wins and a save over four appearances at the Gardner-Webb Tournament. The Plano, Texas, native posted a 2.52 ERA over 16 2/3 innings of work with 10 strikeouts against two walks. Lange's best performance came in relief against Furman last Friday when she retired all nine batters she faced with four strikeouts to close out a 6-4 victory. She also tossed a five-inning complete game in Sunday's 11-2 victory over Georgetown.
Gist posted a .333 batting average and a .556 slugging percentage as Dayton wen 3-2 in its first weekend of the 2019 season. She was 1-for-1, her first career double, with one RBI and one walk with three putouts and two assists in Dayton's five-inning win over Eastern Shore. Gist also tallied two RBI to go with one putout and four assists against South Dakota on Feb. 8.
