Anderson and Reed Earn A-10 Women's Lacrosse Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week Awards
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Massachusetts’ Kiley Anderson was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Women’s Lacrosse Player of the Week while Duquesne sophomore Sydney Reed was named Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday. Davidson’s Braeden Dial was named Rookie of the Week. The awards are based off games played Feb. 11-17.
Anderson netted six goals and won seven draw controls leading UMass to a 24-4 season-opening win at Bryant last Friday. The redshirt senior from Killingworth, Conn., scored her six goals on an efficient seven shots, while her seven draw control wins were nearly half of UMass’ 18 for the game. Four of her goals came in the first half helping UMass build out a 17-3 lead going into halftime.
Reed recorded a career-high six caused turnovers and five ground balls to help the Dukes earn a 16-8 win at Butler on Thursday. The defender from Victor, N.Y., helped limit the Bulldogs to just six second-half shots and helped force 27 Bulldog turnovers in the victory.
In her second collegiate game, Dial led the team with a season-high four goals on seven shots, while adding a groundball and a draw control in leading Davidson to a 13-8 win over Furman. The New Canaan, Conn., native scored the first and second goals of the game for the Wildcats and ended the scoring on the day with the final goal. Dial put six of her seven shots on goal.
