NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Fordham sophomore Rachel Hubertus was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Softball Player of the Week while Saint Joseph’s Amanda Herr was named Pitcher of the Week, the league announced Monday. Rhode Island’s Faith Musselwhite was named Rookie of the Week. The awards are based off performances from Feb. 11-17.
Hubertus enjoyed a terrific week at the plate for the Fordham, slashing .583/.583/1.167 with her first career home runs. The infielder from Short Hills, N.J., notched at least one hit in all four games and scored at least once in three. She went 1-for-2 with an RBI single against Seattle and enjoyed a big 3-for-5 game with a home run, two runs driven in, and two runs scored. The following day, she doubled and scored against Utah Valley and then went deep with a solo shot, finishing 2-for-2 against BYU.
Making her collegiate debut, freshman Amanda Herr went 2-0 with a 1.91 ERA for the Hawks. Against Stetson on Friday, Herr pitched a complete game, allowing just two earned runs and striking out three in an SJU win. The Lititz, Pa., native followed with another complete game versus Bethune Cookman as she struck out three and allowed one unearned run. In a relief role, Herr capped the weekend and pitched 4.1 innings versus Troy.
In five games, Musselwhite batted .533 (8-15) with two home runs, two doubles, one triple and six runs batted in. She hit safely in all five games, including two multi-hit games. The outfielder from Apopka, Fla., had a slugging percentage of 1.200. Against UNC Wilmington, she became the first Rhode Island player since 2016 to hit two home runs in one game. She had extra-base hits in three of the team's five games.
