Kelehan and Donato Share A-10 Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week Honors; Weedon Named Defensive Player of the Week
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – George Mason’s Chachi Kelehan and Saint Joseph’s Francesca Donato shared the Atlantic 10 Conference Women’s Lacrosse Player of the Week honors while Saint Joseph’s Amber Weedon was named Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday. George Mason’s Deanna Balsama was named Rookie of the Week. The awards are based off games played Feb. 18-24.
Kelehan scored four goals and dished out three assists in a 16-9 victory at Longwood on Saturday. The senior attacker from Ellicott City, Md., scored her first four goals of the season - all in the first half. She twice scored on free-position attempts and also won a ground ball and caused a turnover.
Donato posted a game-high seven points on four goals and three assists to lead SJU to a 17-8 home win over Temple on Thursday. After an 11-point performance against the Owls last spring, which matched SJU's single-game program record for points, the senior attacker from Langhorne, Pa., has now put up an incredible 18 points in her last two games versus Temple.
In her collegiate debut, freshman goalkeeper Weedon (1-0) made six saves against seven goals allowed in the initial 54:07 to earn her first collegiate victory. The rookie was strong in net, with four saves in the first half and two in the second, including quite a few stops on point-blank shots.
Balsama scored a career-high three goals in a 16-9 victory at Longwood. The attacker from Sewell, N.J., recorded her third straight multi-goal game as the Patriots (1-2) picked up their first win of the season. She also collected a career-high four ground balls and tied a personal best with two caused turnovers. She leads the team in goals (seven) and points (10).
