UR's Lee, Little Win Baseball Player, Rookie Awards, UD's Wolfe Named Pitcher of the Week
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Richmond senior D.J. Lee was named Atlantic 10 Baseball Player of the Week while his freshman teammate Daniel Little was chosen as the league’s Rookie of the Week. Dayton junior Hunter Wolfe was selected as the A-10 Pitcher of the Week. The awards, announced Monday, are for games played Feb. 18-24.
Lee led Richmond to a pair of wins over Bowling Green. The outfielder from Frankfort, Ill., finished Richmond’s Sunday doubleheader 5-for-9, including a 4-for-6 performance in the second game where he was a home run away from the cycle. He drove in a career-high seven runs in the nightcap of the doubleheader and swiped a base in the first game of the doubleheader. The first game of the double-dip was his 150th career game as a Spider.
Wolfe threw a complete game and earned the victory in Dayton's 2-1 win over Seton Hall, the first of the season for the Flyers. The southpaw from Clay City, Ind., only allowed four hits, struck out 11 batters and walked just one. He only allowed one Seton Hall baserunner past first base, and he faced the minimum through four innings.
Little, a redshirt junior playing his first year of collegiate ball, turned in a 3-for-5 week hitting in the ninth spot of the lineup and posted a .750 on base percentage to help Richmond win twice over Bowling Green. The Shortstop from Nicholasville, Ky., finished game one 1-for-1 with a pair of walks in the 4-3 win. In the second game he was 2-for-4 with a double, a walk, two RBI and two runs. He was also perfect defensively with a 1.000 fielding percentage on seven chances during the doubleheader.
