NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Massachusetts’ Kiley Anderson was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Women’s Lacrosse Player of the Week while Richmond’s Megan Gianforte earned Defensive Player of the Week honors, the league announced Monday. George Mason’s Deanna Balsama was named Rookie of the Week. The awards are based off games played Feb. 25 – March 3.

Anderson notched 11 goals, including a single-game, school-record nine on Saturday, as UMass split its week with a road loss at Harvard before a home win against Connecticut. The redshirt senior from Killingworth, Conn., finished the week with 11 goals, one assist, 19 draw controls, and one groundball. Against Harvard, Anderson tallied two goals, the groundball and 12 draw controls. She followed that performance against UConn with a school-record nine goals (the most for any player in the NCAA this season), tied the school record by adding an assist for 10 points, and won seven draws. Her 11 goals during the week accounted for a third of UMass' 31 goals scored, while her 19 draw controls were nearly half of UMass' 44 draws won.

Gianforte had a standout day in goal on Saturday, stopping a season-high 14 shots in the Spiders’ 10-9 win at Liberty. The junior from Briell, N.J., held the Flames to just 2-10 from free position while facing 37 shots in the win. She also led the Spiders with two caused turnovers and three ground balls.

Balsama scored seven goals and dished out three assists in a pair of wins last week. The attacker from Sewell, N.J., scored a career-high four goals on just five shots in a 17-10 victory over Canisius in the Patriots' home opener on Sunday. She also caused two turnovers. On Wednesday, she scored three goals and dished out three assists in a 13-10 victory at American. Through five games, she leads the team with 14 goals and 20 points.
