Richmond, Saint Joseph's, Davidson Take Home Weekly #A10WTEN Awards

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Atlantic 10 Conference has named Richmond's Kiana Marshall and Saint Joseph's Amanda Nava its Women's Tennis Co-Players of the Week, the league announced Tuesday, while Davidson's Elizabeth Truluck was named Rookie of the Week. On the Men's side, Davidson's Yash Parikh earned Player of the Week, while Dayton's Joe DeMarco earned Rookie of the Week accolades.

Marshall went 3-1 in singles action last week with wins against College of Charleston, Massachusetts and Samford. Marshall won her match at No. 2 singles, clinching the 4-3 win against the College of Charleston in a third set victory, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4. The junior from Bridgetown, Barbados, also won her doubles match at No. 2 doubles with partner Emily Dunbar, 6-2 against CofC. Against the Minutewomen, Marshall defeated Jodie Lawrence-Taylor, 6-3, 7-5 for the first Spider point of the day. Moving into the top position, Marshall defeated Grace Jennings of Samford, 6-3, 6-2, for her ninth straight victory, before dropping a 7-5, 6-2 decision against James Madison's top player.

Nava, a sophomore from Bala Cynwyd, Pa., continued her strong performances to open match play as she extended her singles unbeaten streak to 10 matches as she went 4-0 on the week at the top singles flight. Nava had four straight-set victories against the top opponents from Howard, Lee-McRae, Western Carolina and Farleigh Dickinson. Teaming with Isis-Gill Reid at No. 1 doubles, Nava also posted a 2-1 record for the Hawks last week during their annual Spring Break trip to Florida.

Truluck went 3-1 in singles and doubles during the week in matches against Charlotte and George Mason. The Myrtle Beach, S.C., native scored lone team point versus Charlotte with a 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-6) singles win at No. 5 and also teamed with Megan Scholvinck at No. 1 doubles to score a 6-2 win. She followed up with team-leading 11th singles win on the year in cruising to a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 5 against A-10 foe George Mason, one of three singles wins on the day in a 4-0 win. 

Parikh went 3-1 in singles and doubles matches against Elon and George Mason last week. The Tuscon, Ariz., product won his ninth singles match of the season with a 6-4, 6-2 win against Mason's No. 2, while also teaming with Alexander Loope at No. 3 doubles to win a pair of matches, 6-2 and 6-0. The pair pushed their win streak to four in a row to remain perfect on the season (4-0) as well as in league matches (2-0).

DeMarco, an Erie, Pa., native earned a 7-6, 7-5 win at No. 4 singles against Kailash Panchapakesan from UIC to help Dayton come back to take a 4-3 win over the Flames, after dropping the doubles point to open the match. He also won at No. 2 doubles against DePaul with teammate Langford Hills by a score of 4-3 against Fran and Vito Tonejc.
