Richmond's Gouger and UMass' Boric Set to Compete at the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships in Austin

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Junior swimmer Hannah Gouger (Cockeysville, Md.) is set to be just the seventh Spider in school history to compete at the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships in Austin, Texas this week. Gouger qualified after breaking her own school and Atlantic 10 conference record in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:53.56.

In Austin, Gouger will be competing in both the 200-yard backstroke and the 100-yard backstroke. The 100-yard backstroke preliminary race will be held Friday morning, with events beginning at 9 a.m. The race is scheduled to be fifth race of the morning. The finals for the 100-yard backstroke are set for Friday evening, beginning at 5 p.m. Saturday features a similar schedule, with the 200-yard backstroke trial as the first event Saturday morning at 9 a.m., with finals Saturday evening. The trial races can be live streamed via with links available on the Richmond Swimming and Diving schedule page. Finals competitions will be streamed on linear television on ESPNU and the WatchESPN app.

Gouger was named the Atlantic 10 Championships Most Outstanding Performer, setting a then record in the 200-yard backstroke before besting that time the next week. She also qualified for the 100-yard backstroke at the NCAAs after posting a 52.95 time at the A-10 Championships.

The junior is the seventh Spider to qualify for the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships meet, joining former Spiders Mary Adams, Brooke Boncher, Jessica Witt, Lauren Beaudreau, Katie Sieben, and Lauren Hines as the only Spiders to qualify. She's the first Spider to earn a spot at the national meet since the 2012 season.

Maja Boric will be making her second consecutive appearance at the NCAA Women's Diving Championships after her performance last week at the NCAA Zone A Diving Championships earned the junior an invite to the national championship meet in Austin, Texas. The 2019 NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships will be held from March 20-23 at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center at the University of Texas.
Boric earned her second straight 1-Meter Dive championship invite after finishing seventh on the 1-Meter board at the NCAA Zone A Diving Championships on March 12 with a 12-dive score of 525.25. The junior's score of 260.20 in the preliminary rounds earned her a spot in the finals in ninth-place on her way to posting the sixth-best average round score of 44.18 in the finals.
