NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — George Washington senior Logan Lowe and Rhode Island sophomore Chris Francoeur were named Atlantic 10 Conference Co-Golfers of the Week, while Davidson freshman Clayton Tribus and George Mason freshman Sam Jung were chosen as the league’s Co-Rookies of the Week. The awards were announced Monday for events played Feb. 21 through March 20.
Back at the venue where he claimed his first collegiate win two years ago, Lowe repeated as he shot a 5-under par 208 to finish as Co-Champion at the Bash at the Beach in Myrtle Beach, S.C., on March 11-12. The Grass Valley, Calif., native worked his way around the Par 71 Surf Golf and Beach Club for a 2-under 69 in the first round, before coming back in the afternoon with a 5-under 66 to vault into a one-shot lead. In the third and final round, Lowe was two shots back with four to play, but he birdied 16 and 17 to collect his fourth career win.
Francoeur claimed the first individual title of his career, winning the Cape Fear National Intercollegiate by one stroke, which helped Rhode Island claim the team title as well. The Amesbury, Mass., product shot an even 216 (74-70-72), and was the only golfer among the field of 51 to finish with a negative score (-2) on par-4 holes. Francoeur had nine birdies overall and parred 36 holes across the three-round tournament.
Tribus led wire-to-wire en route to his first career title, shooting a 3-under 210 (67-72-71) to win the Pinehurst Intercollegiate. A native of Madison, Wisc., he was the only competitor in the 87-player field to finish under par.
Jung tied for 13th at the Fort Lauderdale Intercollegiate at the Fort Lauderdale Country Club. Jung, a native of Centreville, Va., shot a 1-over 217 (74-71-72) in the Patriots' first stroke play tournament of the spring. It marked Jung's third top-15 finish of the season.
