Stavinoha and Gilliam Earn A-10 Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week Awards
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Massachusetts’ Kaitlyn Stavinoha was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Softball Player of the Week while Dayton’s Jessica Gilliam was named Pitcher of the Week, the league announced Monday. George Washington’s Morgan Kummer earned Rookie of the Week honors. The awards are for games played March 25-31.
Stavinoha posted a batting average of .700, and an on-base percentage of .769 while slugging 1.000 in three games to go along with five runs scored and four RBI. The senior shortstop drove in a pair of runs with two walks and a hit in an 8-3 win over Boston College. She also posted a new career-high of four hits in an 8-5 win over Saint Louis in game one, scoring twice while driving in one, and added two hits in game two against the Billikens while scoring once and bringing in a run with a double. Stavinoha drove in a run and scored at least once in each game.
Gilliam worked consecutive complete games over two wins in the circle for Dayton this week. She allowed three earned runs in 14 innings of work for a 1.50 ERA on the week. In a 9-3 win at Saint Louis Wednesday, Gilliam tallied six strikeouts to zero walks while allowing three earned runs on seven hits. She followed that with a complete-game shutout of Rhode Island on Friday as she fanned a career-high 11 while walking one and gave up zero runs on three hits.
Kummer posted a .500/.529/.625 slash line to help the Colonials post a 3-2 mark on the week. The freshman from Ellsworth, Wisc., started all five games and reached base in each with eight hits in 16 at-bats, including the first two three-hit games of her career. She went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, two RBI and two runs scored in Wednesday's home win over Morgan State before going 3-for-4 again with two runs scored in Saturday's 7-5 comeback win at Saint Joseph's.
