Kutch, Lewis, Alston, Reich Earn A-10 Outdoor Track & Field Performer of the Week Honors
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Fordham junior Ryan Kutch and La Salle junior Darion Alston were named the Atlantic 10 Conference Men’s Track & Field Performers of the Week, respectively, while Saint Louis’ Myles Gascon earned Men’s Rookie of the Week honors. George Mason junior Ashley Lewis was named Women’s Track Performer of the Week, Saint Louis senior Sarah Reich was named Track Performer of the Week, and Lewis’s Mason teammate Siobhra O’Flaherty was named Rookie of the Week. The awards, announced Tuesday, are for meets held April 1-7.
Kutch continued his successful 2018-19 season at the 54th annual Colonial Relays at William & Mary this weekend. The Holtsville, N.Y., native won the 5,000-meter championship in a school record and IC4A qualifying time of 14:04.48. He broke the 40-year old record of 14:12.2 set by Dave Callahan in 1979 and helped Fordham place 17th in the team competition out of 52 teams.
Alston captured the triple jump crown at the Sam Howell Invitational on Saturday. The product of Downingtown, Pa., won the event with a leap of 14.99 meters while also finishing seventh in the long jump with a mark of 6.62 meters.
Gascon, a native of Naperville, Ill., won the 100-meter dash at the Billiken Invitational with a time of 10.88, helping the Billikens to the team title in the meet. The time sits fifth in the A-10 this season.
Lewis ran a time of 2:05.08 in the 800-meter run, improving on her number three all-time mark at George Mason, and posting the top time in the A-10 this season. The Boston, Mass., product also holds the No. 6 spot in the East Region and 12th in the NCAA. Lewis also ran on the sixth-place 4x400-meter relay and added a 200-meter time of 25.83.
Reich won the javelin at the Billiken Invitational with an A-10-best throw of 147-11. That was also a personal record and the best mark ever at SLU Medical Center Stadium.
O’Flaherty ran the 10,000-meters in 35:13.33 for second place at Colonial Relays in the second-best time in A-10, and fourth all-time at Mason. Her time also sits 38th in the East Region.
