Lang, Jones Share Golfer of the Week Honors; Garewal Selected as Rookie of the Week
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Davidson senior Jack Lang and Rhode Island senior Dawson Jones were named the Atlantic 10 Co-Golfers of the Week. Davidson freshman Viraj Garewal earned Rookie of the Week honors. The awards were announced Friday for tournaments played April 4-10.
Lang set a new school record for career Top-5 finishes with 12 after placing third out of 96 competitors at the 2019 Irish Creek Collegiate. The Boston native posted a 54-hole total of 207 (6-under), which included a personal-best 66 in round 2 and 69 on the final day. In addition, Lang has six Top-5s and 7 Top-10 finishes in 9 tournaments this season.
Jones carded back-to-back 69s to finish with a 138 and tie for third place at the Villanova Wildcat Invitational. The Freehold, N.J., native birdied eight holes overall and finished 4-under in the 104-player field, helping Rhode Island place seventh out of a 20-team field.
Garewal shot a 2-over 215 (70-71-74) across the three rounds to tie for 34th at the 2019 Irish Creek Collegiate. Garewal got off to a great start, as the Raleigh, N.C., native recorded a hole-in-one with a six iron on 186-yard Par 3 third hole in the first round. Lang and Garewal helped Davidson place fifth in the field of 16 teams, four of which were nationally ranked.
