No. 4 Saint Joseph's Advances to #A10WLAX Semifinals

Fairfax, Va. – Led by A-10 Player of the Year Francesca Donato, the fourth-seeded Saint Joseph’s Hawks advanced to the 2019 Atlantic 10 Championship semifinals with an 18-15 quarterfinal victory over No. 5 VCU  on Thursday at George Mason Stadium.

VCU’s Sky Hyatt started off the game for the Rams with a first-minute goal, but Donato responded in turn with a goal for the Hawks. Such was the action for most of the second half, as the goal differential remained within two points until a six-goal run for Saint Joseph’s going into the half. The Hawks out-shot VCU 23-13 in the first half.

Saint Joseph’s didn’t give up the lead for the rest of the second half, though the Rams  

Donato led the Hawks with five goals and four assists to tie the conference record of nine points and picked up three ground balls. Teammate Stephanie Kelly added five goals, 2 assists, and a ground ball. Goalie Amber Weedon contributed 11 saves to the win.

The Rams were led by Second Team All-Conference members Sky Hyatt (5 goals, 2 Assists) and Molly Bercikowski (5 Goals, 2 Assists). Ria Peralta had 11 saves in goal for VCU.

With the loss, VCU falls to 7-10 overall on the season.
