VCU Men Draw Kentucky, Women to Face NC State in NCAA Tennis Championships

RICHMOND, Va. – The VCU Men's Tennis team will head to Winston-Salem, N.C. and face Kentucky in the 2019 NCAA Men's Tennis Tournament First Round. All match timesand dates will be announced later. 

The Rams enter the tournament after winning their third consecutive Atlantic 10 Men's Championship on April 28 at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla. VCU swept the University of Richmond 4-0 to win the A-10 Championship. The Rams also swept Duquesne 4-0 in the quarterfinals and beat Dayton 4-3 in the semifinals. 

VCU is making its 23rd all-time appearance in the NCAA Men's Tennis Tournament. The Rams will meet Kentucky for just the second time in program history. The first meeting came on Feb. 27, 1999 as VCU prevailed in a 4-2 win at a neutral site. Kentucky is 15-14 overall on the season while the Rams carry a 16-9 overall record.

Morgan State and No. 4 overall seed Wake Forest is the other matchup on VCU's portion of the bracket.

RICHMOND, Va. – The VCU Women's Tennis team will head to Raleigh, N.C. and face No. 12 overall seed N.C. State in the 2019 NCAA Women's Tennis Tournament First Round. All match timesand dates will be announced later. 

The Rams won their sixth Atlantic 10 Championship in the seven years since joining the conference on April 27. The Rams earned the A-10's automatic bid to the tournament. It marks the 13th NCAA Tournament Appearance in the last 14 years and the 18th appearance overall. VCU is 18-5 overall and had a complete sweep of the field at the A-10 Championship. The Black and Gold beat Richmond 4-0 in the final after a 4-0 win over Davidson in the semifinals and a 4-0 win against Saint Louis in the quarterfinals.

N.C. State holds a 22-6 overall record after falling to Miami in the Atlantic Coast Conference quarterfinals, 4-2. The Rams will meet the Wolfpack for the 19th time as VCU holds a 10-8 overall edge in the series' history. The teams last met on Jan. 30, 2016 in a 4-3 thriller won by the Wolfpack. The series history between the two schools dates back to 1991.

Tennessee and Furman is the other matchup hosted by N.C. State in VCU's portion of the bracket.
