No. 5 Saint Joseph's Advances to Second Round of #A10SB Championship

AMHERST, Mass. -- In a quick, five-inning decision in game one of the 2019 Atlantic 10 Softball Championship, the fifth-seeded Saint Joseph’s Hawks advanced to the second round with an 11-0 victory over No. 4 Dayton at Sortino Field on Wednesday.

Amanda Kulp scored the first run of the game in the top of the first inning for the Saint Joseph’s, batted in by Sarah Ostaszewski, and the Hawks kept the lead until the end. The Hawks scored four more in the third inning to grow their lead, and a fruitful six-run fifth inning sealed the win via the eight-run rule.

Seven of Saint Joseph’s 11 runs were scored on singles, and eight Hawks scored runs in the win. Ostaszewski led the Hawks with two runs and two RBI, while teammate Caela Abadie had one run and three RBI.

Ellie Ziegler and Abby Ehrenborg led the Flyers at 1-for-2 each at the plate.

Saint Joseph’s will advance to play top-seeded Massachusetts Thursday at 11:00 am, while Dayton will play in the consolation elimination game this afternoon at 4:00 pm against the loser of the second game this afternoon.
