AMHERST, Mass. – After seven scoreless innings, third-seeded George Washington scored twice in the eighth inning to earn a 2-1 extra-inning win over No. 2 Massachusetts in game five of the 2019 Atlantic 10 Softball tournament.

With the win, GW advances to play No. 5 Saint Joseph’s in the first game of the third round Friday at 11:00 AM.

After the Colonials broke the scoreless pitchers' duel with their runs, the host Minutewomen tried to rally in the bottom half of the frame, but only managed one run.

GW's Sierra Lange (28-11) threw a gem, tossing a complete game, allowing just one run on six hits with eight strikeouts and two walks in earning the victory. Kiara Oliver (9-11) also allowed just six hits and two walks. She did not surrender an earned run, as both runs came following a lead-off error.

Jessica Linquist and Jenna Cone got on via an error and a hit by pitch, and moved into scoring position to start the inning for the Colonials. Alessandra Ponce hit a single up the middle to bat in Linquist, and Elena Shelepak mirrored Ponce's hit to drive in Cone.

The Minutewomen were able to respond with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning to get on the board when Erin Stacevicz came in on a sacrifice fly from Kendra Allen.

With the Loss, the Minutewomen play in the third game Thursday against the sixth-seeded Saint Louis Billikens.
