Fordham Advances to Championship Final with 10-2 Walk-off Victory over SJU

AMHERST, Mass. – Fordham’s Julia Martine singled down the third-base line to hit in Maria Trivelpiece for a walk-off 10-2 victory in the sixth inning over the Saint Joseph’s Hawks to send the Rams to the 2019 Atlantic 10 Softball Championship game.

No. 1 Fordham will play No. 3 George Washington at 1:30 pm on Saturday for the A-10 title and the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.

With a run from Chelsea Skrepenak, batted in by pitcher Madie Aughinbaugh, the Rams took a 1-0 lead into the fifth inning before Jordy Storm was able to bat in Skrepenak and Deanna Burbridge to start a two-inning, nine-run streak for the walk-off victory.

Skrepenak led the Fordham lineup hitting 3-for-4 with three runs and an RBI. A-10 Pitcher of the Year Aughinbaugh was able to hold Saint Joseph’s to only two runs, which came in the top of the sixth inning.

Sarah Ostaszewski doubled down to left center to bat in Kirstin Cox, and then scored on a single from Taylor Marinelli.

With the Loss, the Hawks fall to 28-25 on the season.
