AMHERST, Mass. -- A two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth from Fordham’s Molly Roark was enough to give the Rams the lead they needed for a 5-2 decision over No. 3 George Washington to force the second game of the 2019 Atlantic 10 Softball Championship final.

After George Washington started off the game with two runs in the first inning, Fordham was able to tie the game with runs in the first and third innings from Chelsea Skrepenak and pinch runner Gigi Speer. The two-run homer from Roark, along with an insurance run from pinch runner Anne Marie Prentiss batted in by Julia Martine, sealed the win for the Rams.

The Fordham defense led my pitcher Madie Aughinbaugh was able to keep the Colonials from scoring after the first inning.

The Colonials’ runs were scored by Sierra Lange and pinch runner Olivia Ortlieb, batted in by Elena Shelepak and Hannah Eslick, respectively, in the top of the first.

The second game between Fordham and George Washington will be played on Sunday at noon, to decide which team earns the A-10 title and the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
