GW and Fordham Softball Begin Postseason Play
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The 2019 Atlantic 10 Softball Co-Champions Fordham and George Washington Begin postseason this week with GW opening the NISC Liberty Regional on Thursday and Fordham playing in the NCAA Seattle Regional against No. 3 Washington on Friday.
Fordham earned a seventh straight NCAA berth with its regular season title after the deciding game of the 2019 Atlantic 10 Championship was canceled due to weather. The Rams found out their Regional placement during Monday night's Selection Show.
The Rams (29-24) will head to the Seattle Regional as the fourth seed, hosted by last year's Women's College World Series runners-up, #3 Washington (45-7), alongside Seattle (39-15) and Mississippi State (33-21). Fordham and Washington will play on Friday night, May 17, at 10 p.m. ET on ESPN3.
The winners of Friday's contests will meet at 6 p.m. ET, while the losers will meet immediately after. The winner of the latter will meet the loser of the former at 11 p.m. ET for a chance to advance to the Regional Final, which will be held on Sunday at 9 p.m. ET.
George Washington is set to make its first postseason appearance at the Liberty Regional of the National Invitational Softball Championship.
The Colonials (42-16) start the double-elimination regional vs. Marshall (39-20) on Thursday with a 1 p.m. first pitch at Liberty Softball Stadium.
The winner of GW's opener advances to meet Kent State later Thursday, while the loser drops into the consolation bracket for an elimination game on Friday afternoon.
Appalachian State, Rutgers, and the host Flames round out the six-team regional in an event billed as the NIT of Softball.
