NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Atlantic 10 Conference joins the University of Rhode Island in mourning the passing of former URI women's basketball coach Cathy Inglese.

Inglese, who coached the Rams from 2009-14, dedicated her life to the sport of basketball. She touched the lives of many throughout a remarkable career that spanned more than 40 years.

“On behalf of the Atlantic 10 Conference I offer our deepest sympathy, prayers and support to the Inglese family.  Cathy was a coach, colleague and friend who touched and positively impacted so many student-athletes, administrators and professionals. It is with deep sadness that the harsh reality of our limited time here on earth is often out of our control,” stated A-10 Commissioner Bernadette V. McGlade.

"Our hearts and prayers go out to Cathy's family," Rhode Island Director of Athletics Thorr Bjorn said. "Cathy was the epitome of a basketball coach. She loved the game more than life itself. I value the time we worked together."
