SJU Teammates Olenginski and Bentz Named Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Saint Joseph’s junior Jordan Olenginski has been awarded Atlantic 10 Conference Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week, while her senior teammate, Kathrin Bentz has been named Defensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive week, the league announced Monday. Lock Haven freshman Jazmin Palma and Saint Joseph’s freshman Kacie Patton earned Co-Rookie of the Week honors. The awards are for games played Sept. 2 - 8.
Olenginski, from Mountain Top, Pa., tallied an assist in Friday's 4-1 win over Drexel before scoring the opening goal and giving the Hawks an early lead en route to a 2-1 win over #19 Rutgers on Sunday.
Bentz, the senior from Hamburg, Germany, tallied a goal and an assist as the Hawks topped Drexel, 4-1, on Friday. She then helped key the defensive unit that fought off four penalty corners in the final two and a half minutes as the Hawks held on to beat #19 Rutgers, 2-1, on Sunday.
Freshman Jazmin Palma, a native of Entre Rios Providence, Argentina, led Lock Haven over the weekend in a pair of non-conference games. In a 3-2 come-from-behind win at Colgate Friday, she had a goal and two assists. Despite a narrow double-OT loss Sunday at Cornell, Palma added another goal. The six-point weekend marked the first points of her Bald Eagle career.
A freshman midfielder out of Allentown, Pennsylvania, Patton recorded her second goal of the season with a game-winner on Sunday as she tipped home a pass from senior Pepa Serrano to give the Hawks the lead for good as SJU beat #19 Rutgers, 2-1.
