WASHINGTON – The Atlantic 10 Conference will host 28 men’s and women’s basketball student-athletes this weekend at the league’s the third-annual Leadership Summit this weekend in Washington. There will be two student-athletes, one male and one female, from each of the 14 conference members.

Designed to build the leadership skills of basketball student-athletes, the summit exposes the participants to a wide-variety of leadership philosophies, through interaction with professionals and with the other participating student-athletes. The summit not only teaches the skills of leadership, but also helps truly define what leadership is for each person. Past participants have called the event a “life changing experience” after coming away with a new understanding and knowledge.

The two-day event will kick off with a welcome from Dr. Thomas LeBlanc, President of The George Washington University and A-10 Commissioner Bernadette V. McGlade. Dr. LeBlanc will then participate in a question and answer session to foster group discussion with the student-athletes.

The student-athletes will also visit the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture and will reflect on their experiences at the museum with Dr. Richard Pierce, a Notre Dame faculty member in the Departments of Africana Studies and History.

Former collegiate and NBA Championship coach Kevin Eastman, who facilitated the summit in the first two years, will join the group on the second day to lead all 28 student-athletes in breakout sessions and discussion on leadership culture.

The participants will have the opportunity to interact with the presenters, as well as each other throughout the two days.  A unique aspect of the summit is the opportunity for fierce competitors on the basketball court to come together united in their desire to become fierce leaders off the court.
