La Salle's Chapin, South, Richmond's Zwicklbauer, Frank Take Weekly Field Hockey Honors
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – La Salle senior Amanda Chapin and Richmond senior Elise Zwicklbauer have been named the Atlantic 10 Conference’s Co-Offensive Players of the Week, the league announced Monday. La Salle’s Chloe South earned Defensive Player of the Week honors, while Richmond freshman, Lindsey Frank, was awarded Rookie of the Week. The awards were for games played Sept. 9-15.
Chapin, from Gambrills, Md., played an integral role for the Explorers in their 3-2 double-overtime win against LIU. Chapin tallied assists on both of the goals scored in regulation, as well as scoring the game-winning penalty shot to get La Salle the win.
Zwicklbauer, hailing from Burnt Hills, N.Y., had a standout weekend for the Spiders when she led the team to a 4-2 come-from-behind win on Friday afternoon at Lehigh. After assisting on the first goal, the senior scored the final two goals of the game in the last six minutes to lift the Spiders to their third win of the season. Despite a close 2-1 overtime loss on Sunday, Zwicklbauer led the Richmond offense to an 11-5 advantage in shots.
After starting goalkeeper Cassie Kincaid went down due to injury early in the second half, South, a freshman out of Lusby, Md., stepped in and was outstanding in the first action of her collegiate career against LIU. South stopped seven shots during the remainder of the second half and overtime periods but saved her best work for the penalty shootout. South denied all five Shark shots as the Explorers came away with a 3-2 win.
Frank, the rookie midfielder from Ganesvoort, N.Y., has stepped up for the Spiders in her first season on the field, and this weekend was no different as she dished out two assists in the final six minutes of the Spiders’ 4-2 win over Lehigh. Despite a tough 2-1 overtime loss at Lafayette on Sunday afternoon, Frank helped the Spiders hold the Mountain Hawks to just five shots.
