NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Rhode Island sophomore Edvin Akselsen was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week while La Salle sophomore Brett Werner was named the A-10 Defensive Player of the Week. Duquesne freshman Nate Dragisich was chosen as the league’s Rookie of the Week.  The awards were for games played Sept. 30 – Oct. 7.

A midfielder from Oslo, Norway, Akselsen factored into all three Rhody goals in the Rams' 3-1 win over Fordham. After Fordham scored in the fourth minute, he set up the equalizer less than 10 minutes later.  He then scored what proved to be the game-winner in the 28th minute. Akselsen also assisted on a 75th-minute insurance goal. He currently leads the league in assists (7) and ranks fourth in points per game (1.22).

A goalkeeper from Philadelphia, Werner anchored the Explorers to a 2-0 shutout win over A-10 rival Saint Joseph's on Saturday. He made a season-high nine saves, including six in the second half, to record his second clean sheet of the season.

A midfielder from McDonald, Pa., Dragisich’s goal in the fourth minute proved to be the game-winner in Duquesne’s 4-0 win over St. Bonaventure. He also had an assist against the Bonnies for a three-point game. The goal came on a header off a cross from fellow freshman Carter Breen. Dragisich had six shots, including two on goal, for the week.
