Black and Michon Earn #A10XC Performer of the Week Awards with Record-Breaking Week
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Rhode Island graduate student Lotte Black and Saint Joseph’s Senior Zach Michon were named the Atlantic 10 Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Performers of the Week, respectively, the league announced Tuesday. Richmond’s Kate Dickow was named Women’s Rookie of the Week while George Washington’s James Glockenmeier was named Men’s Rookie of the Week. The awards are for races run Sept. 30 – Oct. 6.
Black led the Rams with her seventh-place finish at the Lehigh Paul Short Invitational Saturday. The URI all-time best mark of 19:55.4 was the best finish in a 6k race course since 2005 (Cindy Smith, 21:08). It was the second record shattered in as many meets for the grad student from Ambler, Pa., who returns to competition this year after missing the last two years due to injury.
Michon took home a 21st-place finish as the Saint Joseph's men's cross country squad placed 27th in a field of 44 teams at Lehigh University's Goodman Campus. The Robbinsville, N.J., native flew through the course in a collegiate-best time of 23:53.3, the first sub-24:00 8k of his collegiate career and a personal best by 46 seconds. The time the fastest ever by an SJU runner over Lehigh's 8k course.
Dickow led Richmond to a team win at the Great American Cross Country Fest in Cary, N.C., on Saturday. The Lititz, Pa., product finished as the top collegiate runner and placed second overall with a new Personal Record of 17:40.9 in the 5k.
Glockenmeier, a Basking Ridge, N.J., native, was the top finisher for the Colonials at the Paul Short Run, finishing 21st overall in the brown race. His time of 25:06.6 led all freshman in the field of 393 runners.
