UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. -- Following a historic 2018 season that included Atlantic 10 Regular Season and Tournament titles and a trip to the NCAA Tournament, the University of Richmond women's lacrosse team is set for a new adventure.

The team will travel to Europe for a 13-day abroad trip in Italy, Austria and the Czech Republic, experiencing the culture of each site. In each country, the team will experience both guided tours and self-guided exploration to gain cultural exposure through the history, architecture, art, religion and gastronomy.

"This trip is an incredible opportunity for the team to explore different cultures and be exposed to the rich histories of the countries we are visiting," head coach Allison Kwolek said. "We are grateful to those who made this trip possible. It is sure to be an exceptional experience that these young women will remember for a lifetime."

This is the first international trip for the women's lacrosse program since 2007, an opportunity that the student-athletes do not take for granted.

"Our team is so excited about our abroad trip next week," recent graduate and 2018 A-10 Offensive Player of the year Kim Egizi said. "It's such a unique opportunity to not only experience new countries, but to be able to experience it all together as a team."

The team will begin the trip in the Milan/Lake Como are of Italy, touring both cities and making a stop in the town of Bellagio. From there, the group will travel to Venice for the final leg in Italy, exploring San Marco Island and traveling via water taxi.

Upon their departure from Venice, the Spiders will travel to Salzburg, Austria, where they will hike through the Alps, enjoy a Mozart dinner and show, and tour the Swarovski Kristallwelten and Innsbruck.

The final stop of the trip is in Prague, Czech Republic, where the team will sightsee, shop and enjoy a Folklore Dinner and show.

Along with daily touring in Prague, the team will experience physical challenges, including two lacrosse competitions against the Czech National and Developmental teams. The games will be followed by a social for the student-athletes to interact with the Czech athletes, allowing them to converse with other elite female athletes and observe what it means to be a female student-athlete in another country.

The trip is an opportunity for the student-athletes to enrich their relationships with their teammates, while also learning to better communicate, appreciate and collaborate with each other in the future.

"This is something we've been looking forward to all year and will be the perfect ending to an amazing four years for our senior class," Egizi added. "We're so grateful to have this opportunity and want to give a huge thank you to everyone who made this trip possible."

Be sure to check back over the coming weeks, as the Spiders will blog about their experience on RichmondSpiders.com through the duration of their trip.
