WASHINGTON -- In just her second professional season, former GW star Jonquel Jones has earned a starting role in the 2017 WNBA All-Star Game, which will be played July 22 in Seattle.

Jones was one of 10 players -- a list that includes five former MVPs -- selected by fans, WNBA players and media to start in the game. Jones, who has led the Connecticut Sun to the best record in the Eastern Conference, will start along with teammate Jasmine Thomas, Tina Charles (New York Liberty), Elena Delle Donne (Washington Mystics) and Tiffany Hayes (Atlanta Dream).

The Western Conference starters are Sue Bird (Seattle Storm), Diana Taurasi (Phoenix Mercury), Maya Moore and Sylvia Fowles (Minnesota Lynx), and Candace Parker (Los Angeles Sparks).

In just her second season, Jones has quickly emerged as one of the best frontcourt players in the game. She is one of just two players averaging a double-double with 15.9 points and a league-best 11.8 rebounds, while leading the association in overall rebound percentage (24.0%) as well as offensive (16.9%) and defensive (31.3%) rebound rate.

A candidate for Most Improved Player, Jones more than doubled her production from her rookie season a year ago in points (6.8 to 15.9) and rebounds (3.7 to 11.8)

Fans accounted for 50 percent of the vote to determine the starters, while current players and a media panel accounted for 25 percent each. Fans cast 604,680 votes, more than double the number in 2015 (280,670).

The All-Star game begins at 3:30 p.m. ET on the 22nd and will be televised by ABC.
