Wolst, Wright, Baker Claim #A10SD Weekly Honors

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – George Washington’s Tommi Wolst and Owen Wright of Massachusetts were named the Atlantic 10 Conference Men’s Co-Performers of the Week. Ansley Baker of Massachusetts was named Women’s Performer of the Week. George Washington’s Peter Nachtwey and Emma Brinton of Duquesne were named Men’s and Women’s Rookies of the Week.  The awards were based off performances from meets held on Oct. 30 – Nov. 5.

 

Wolst, a junior from Leipzig, Germany starred in GW's 169-124 win over Davidson. The junior took first in the 100-yard breaststroke (56.95 seconds), 100-yard butterfly (51.07 seconds) and 200-yard individual medley (1:54.30). He also swam a leg on the winning 200-yard medley relay team (1:33.27) to help the Colonials take down the Wildcats. He's won all seven of his individual events in dual meet competition this fall.

 

Wright was part of two relay wins in the 200-yard medley relay and the 200-yard freestyle relay, the latter securing a 10 point win over Boston U. Wright, a senior from Attleboro, Mass., won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 20.65. He finished as the runner-up in the 100-yard freestyle.

 

Baker, a junior from Sudbury, Mass., broke the Rogers Pool record at the University of Massachusetts in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 51.27. She won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:05.62. Baker was also part of two relay wins in the 200-yard medley relay and the 200-yard freestyle relay.

 

Nachtwey helped GW claim all the available diving points in Saturday's 169-124 win over Davidson. The freshman from Chagrin Fall, Ohio, won on the 1-meter board (290.93) and placed second behind teammate Jake Ortiz in the 3-meter competition (292.58).

 

Brinton, a freshman from Landenburg, Pa., won a team-high two events for Duquesne with triumphs in the 200-yard freestyle (1:55.72) and the 100-yard freestyle (54.26) in the Dukes' 168-125 victory over Youngstown State in Duquesne's home opener over the weekend. Brinton was named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week in each of the last two weeks. She was also part of a Duquesne 200-yard medley relay team which took second (1:50.26) at the meet to another Dukes' relay squad. Brinton has helped Duquesne to a 7-0 start to the season in dual meet action.
