McCoy, Rokop Claim Top Swimming and Diving Weekly Honors

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Saint Louis’ Ryan McCoy and Richmond’s Laura Rokop were named the Atlantic 10 Conference Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Performers of the Week. Also honored was Saint Louis’ T.J. Halliburton and St. Bonaventure’s Lina Kutsko, who was named Men’s and Women’s Rookie of the Week. The awards were based off performances from meets held on Nov. 27 – Dec. 3.

 

At the USA Swimming Winter National Championships, McCoy was a member of the 800-yard freestyle relay team that placed sixth in 6:38.89, its season-best time by 10 seconds and the A-10’s fastest time by more than five seconds. The senior from Phoenix, Ariz., led off the relay with an A-10 top 200-yard freestyle time of 1:36.92 (NCAA B cut). He placed 12th in the 100-yard butterfly with the A-10’s best time of 47.41 (NCAA B cut) and finished 15th in the 500-yard freestyle in a school-record 4:24.18, which ranks first in the A-10 by eight seconds. McCoy swam a conference-best 44.68 while qualifying for the final in his heat of the 100-yard freestyle and was a member of the 200-yard medley relay team that won its heat with a time of 1:30.57.

 

Rokop, a senior from Wildwood, Mo., won the 3-meter dive event in Richmond’s dual meet with George Washington on Saturday. Rokop arguably had her best meet of her career- she recorded a 273.73 in the 3-meter event and added a third-place finish on the 1-meter board with a score of 240.00.

 

Halliburton, a St. Louis, Mo., native,  finished 22nd in the 100-yard backstroke in 49.39, just missing the school record of 49.34 and ranking fourth in the A-10 at the USA Swimming Winter National Championships. He also won his heat in the 200-yard backstroke in 1:47.96, ranking him second in the A-10 and second all-time at Saint Louis. Halliburton was a member of the 200-yard medley relay team that won its heat in 1:30.57. At the Indiana State Relay Meet, he was on the winning 300-yard backstroke relay team and the 400-yard medley relay team.

 

On Saturday at the Akron Invitational, Kutsko broke her own program record in the 100-yard butterfly clocking in at 53.86 breaking her record by a second and finished second in the event. The Wheeling, Ill., native was also a member of the 200-yard medley relay team that broke a program record with a time of 1:43.64. On Sunday she broke the St. Bonaventure program record in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 50.14, shattering the previous record that stood at St. Bonaventure since 1998.
