NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Prior to the Men’s Soccer National Championship game, College Soccer News announced its 2017 All-America Teams. Among those honored were VCU’s Rafael Andrade Santos, second team All-America, and Fordham’s Janos Loebe, third team All-America.
Santos, the 2017 Atlantic 10 Conference Offensive Player of the Year, led the league with 12 goals and 29 points. The midfielder from Rio de Janiero, Brazil provided VCU with five of its 12 game-winning goals. He helped the Rams roll to a No. 12 national ranking, 12 victories and a first-round bye in the NCAA Tournament.
A four-time All-Atlantic 10 Conference honoree logged 48 starts during the past four years and has already received an All-Midwest Region citation from the United Soccer Coaches Association, as well as First Team All-Atlantic 10 and VaSID All-State awards this season.
Loebe, a junior from Kierspe, Germany, was one of the main cogs in Fordham’s first-ever run to the NCAA Championship quarterfinal, which saw the Rams earn their first two NCAA tournament wins and getting past nationally seeded teams, Virginia and Duke.
Loebe led Fordham with nine assists and 23 points to go with seven goals and remained among the national leaders in assists and game-winning goals (4) throughout the season. This is the third postseason accolade for Loebe, having previously been named First Team All-Atlantic 10 as well as First Team All-Midwest Region by United Soccer Coaches.
