Fordham Predicted to Capture Sixth Consecutive A-10 Softball Championship
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Fordham has been predicted to win its sixth straight Atlantic 10 Conference Softball Championship, according to the preseason poll conducted by the league’s 10 head coaches, announced on Wednesday.
Fordham enters 2018 after posting a 46-17 record, and an 18-5 mark in the A-10 in 2017. The Rams, winners of five consecutive, and six of the last seven A-10 championships, will enter the 2018 campaign led by Co-Pitcher of the Year, Lauren Quense. Fordham also returns First Team All-Conference first baseman Madison Shaw, designated player Skylar Johnston, and All-Rookie selections Madison Aughinbaugh, and Taylor Stocks.
Massachusetts was picked second in the poll, gathering 86 points. The Minutewomen are led by all-conference selections Meg Colleran, Kaycee Carbone, and Erin Stacevicz. Dayton was selected to finish third with 74 points. The Flyers are led by junior catcher Kyle Davidson, who was a 2017 First Team All-Conference selection and senior pitcher Manda Cash, who was a Second Team All-Conference selection.
Saint Joseph’s took the fourth spot in the poll with 67 points, followed by George Washington in fifth with 58 points and George Mason in sixth with 53 points. Saint Louis was picked seventh followed by Rhode Island and La Salle and St. Bonaventure rounded out the 2018 selections.
The 2018 Atlantic 10 Softball Championship will be hosted by Fordham at the Bahoshy Softball Complex May 9-12 in Bronx, N.Y.
