Commissioner McGlade Co-Authors Detroit Free Press Op-Ed
Atlantic 10 Commissioner Bernadette V. McGlade and Mid-American Conference Commissioner Jon Steinbrecher co-authored an op-ed piece that appeared in the Detroit Free Press Thursday. The article focuses on the success of college student-athletes, the opportunities they have, the benefits they receive and the positive impact those experiences have on their life after college.
An excerpt of the piece is below. A link at the end of the excerpt leads to the full story on the Detroit Free Press website.
College football isn’t the only fall sport where incredibly talented college students compete at a high level. A lot of women we know are working just as hard to play soccer, volleyball and cross country, just to name a few sports.
While few of these women will become household names for the sports they play, tens of thousands of them will go on to become college graduates and successful professionals.
Women who play college sports are more likely to graduate and more likely to succeed at a high level in their careers, thanks in large part to the lessons learned in athletics.
A study by EY and espnw showed 52% of women executives in corporate America who reach the C-Suite played college sports. The ground-breaking study also shows an even higher percentage of women executives regularly look for job candidates with “NCAA Athlete” on their resume.
