NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Fordham’s David Fajoyomi and VCU’s Kiara Porter have been named the Atlantic 10 Conference’s Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track & Field Performers of the Week, respectively, for meets held Jan. 20-26, the league announced Monday. Also honored was Alex McGrainer of Rhode Island, who was named the Men’s Rookie of the Week, and Annika Gomell of Saint Louis, who was named the Women’s Rookie of the Week.
Fajoyomi, a senior from Budapest, Hungary, broke the Fordham school record and established an IC4A qualifying time in the 200 meters en route to a fifth-place finish at the Terrier Invitational with a time of 21.47. Fajoyomi followed his strong performance in the 200 meters by winning the high jump with an IC4A qualifying height of 6’11.5.
Porter, a junior from Yorktown, Va., continued her strong start to the season at this past weekend’s Hokie Invitational. Porter established a new school record on the way to a first-place finish in the 300 meters with a time of 37.92. Porter also finished first and narrowly missed a personal best time in the 400 meters with a time of 24.03.
McGrainer, a native of Medford Lakes, N.J., recorded a time of 4:18.73 in the mile at this past weekend’s Terrier Invitational. In the event, McGrainer finished 55th in the field of 176.
Gomell, a native of Bochum, Germany, finished second overall in the 5,000 meters at the Gladstein Invitational with a time of 16:58.05.
