NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – VCU’s Brandon Ruffin has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference’s Men’s Indoor Track & Field Performer of the Week for meets held Feb. 3-9, the league announced Monday. Fordham’s Titi Fagade and George Mason’s Mandissa Marshall were named Women’s Co-Performers of the Week. Also honored were Mason’s Jordan May, who was named the Men’s Rookie of the Week, and Heather MacLean of Massachusetts, who was named the Women’s Rookie of the Week.
Ruffin, a junior from Chesapeake, Va., posted a mark of 57’ 10 ½” to finish sixth at this past weekend’s Armory Collegiate Invitational. Ruffin’s throw improved upon his eight-place finish at last year’s meet and currently ranks 69th nationally in the event.
Fagade, a senior from Rutland, Mass., set school records in both the 200 meters (25.28) and the 800 meters (2:07.12) at the Valentine Invitational. Fagade’s time in the 800 meters qualified her for ECAC and is currently ranked 18th in the nation and first in the Atlantic 10 this season.
Marshall, a senior from Mountain Top, Pa., set a new school in the Pole Vault with a height of 14’ 1 ¼” (4.30m) at the Armory Collegiate Invitational. She is currently tied for 10th in the nation in the Pole Vault.
May, a freshman from Philadelphia, Pa., won his individual heat and recorded a seventh-place overall finish in the 400 meters at the Armory Collegiate Invitational with a time of 48.91.
MacLean, a freshman from Peabody, Mass., finished 13th in a field of 160 competitors in the 800 meter run at this past weekend’s Valentine Invitational. Her time of 2:10.48 currently ranks her third in the A-10.
