Owusu to Represent Ghana on International Stage
ST. LOUIS – Former Saint Louis University high jumper Naya Owusu has been selected to represent Ghana in several upcoming international events.
Owusu, who holds dual citizenship in Ghana and the United States, will represent Ghana in the Commonwealth Games, scheduled for July 23 to Aug. 3 in Glasgow, Scotland. She will then participate in the African National Championships, slated for Aug. 10-14 in Marrakech, Morocco.
Owusu is the top high jumper in SLU history with school records in both indoor (5-9.25) and outdoor (5-9.25) track and field. She was the 2012 Atlantic 10 Conference outdoor track and field high jump champion and earned runner-up honors last year. Additionally, Owusu registered second-team All-Conference honors in indoor track and field in 2012 and 2014. She graduated from SLU in May with a degree in communication sciences and disorders.
Owusu is the second Billiken female student-athlete to represent her country in an international event. In 2012, Hilary Orf ran for Team USA in the NACAC Cross Country Championships in Trinidad & Tobago.
Owusu will be keeping a blog to chronicle her experiences. To view the blog, click here.
