NEWPORT NEWS, Va. –Thirteen Atlantic 10 schools will be represented at the 2013 NCAA Preliminary Rounds the NCAA announced on Thursday. The Preliminary championships competitions will be held May 23-25. The East region will be held on the campus of North Carolina A&T in Greensboro, N.C. and the West region at the University of Texas in Austin, Texas.
Rhode Island led the way with 11 athletes, nine men and two women, collecting berths. Charlotte has 10 selections while Butler has seven and Duquesne has six. Participating in the preliminaries for Charlotte will be 2013 Men’s Most Outstanding Field Performer Jake Deaton (Shot Put and Discus Throw) and Most Outstanding Rookie Performer Anthony Campbell (Triple Jump). Leading the way for Butler will be 2013 Women’s Most Outstanding Rookie Olivia Pratt (5,000 meters), while Brittney Edwards (Triple Jump), the Most Outstanding Field Performer, will pace the Dukes.
Saint Louis and Temple will be represented by three athletes, while La Salle, Massachusetts, Richmond, Saint Joseph’s and VCU will each have two athletes participating.
Fordham and Xavier will each have one representative.
The qualifiers out of these regions will compete in the NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships held June 5-8 in Eugene, Ore.
