NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Charlotte’s Anthony Bynum and VCU’s Jaleesa Williams were named the Atlantic 10 Conference Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Performers of the Week, respectively, the league office announced on Monday. Alec Peabody of Saint Joseph’s received Men’s Rookie of the Week and Richmond’s Mary Allen was named Women’s Rookie of the Week. The awards announced are for meets competed Mar. 25-31.
Bynum, a freshman from Charlotte, N.C., garnered Men’s Performer of the Week after competition this past weekend at the Virginia Invitational. Bynum recorded a first-place finish in the 400-meters with a time of 47.29 and a third-place finish in the 100-meters with a time of 10.68. Bynum also ran the third leg of the Charlotte 4x100 relay team that recorded a time of 40.36 on the way to a first-place finish.
Williams, a junior, earned Women’s Performer of the Week honors after competing in the Discus, the Shot Put and the Hammer Throw this past weekend at the Fred Hardy Invitational. The Virginia Beach, Va., native placed first in the Discus with a throw of 45.45 meters. Williams also recorded second-place finishes in both the Shot Put (14.10 meters) and the Hammer (50.44 meters).
Peabody, a freshman from Wyncote, Pa., received Men’s Rookie of the Week for the after recording a first-place finish in the 100-meters (10.89) and a second-place finish in the 200-meters (21.85) at the Lafayette 7-Way Invitational.
Allen, a freshman from Richmond, Va., captured Women’s Rookie of the Week honors for the second consecutive week after recording personal best times in both the 200-meters (24.68) and the 400-meters (55.92) at the Fred Hardy Invitational.
