NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Temple’s Gabe Pickett was named the Atlantic 10 Conference’s Men’s Performer of the Week while Becky Stoyle of Massachusetts was named the Women’ s Performer of the Week the league office announced on Monday. Alec Peabody and Dannah Hayward of Saint Joseph’s were named the Men’s and Women’s Rookies of the Week, respectively. The awards announced are for meets competed April 22-28.
Pickett, a junior from Vestal, N.Y., landed a mark of 15.06 meters in the Triple Jump to claim first-place in the event held at The Penn Relays. His mark was 0.51 meters longer than the second-place finisher at the event.
Stoyle, a sophomore from Pembroke, Mass., highlighted the UMASS Pre-Conference Meet with the best jump of her collegiate career. She jumped a distance of 41-10.75 in the Triple Jump, shattering the previous school record by seven inches and the facility record by three inches. Stoyle’s jump currently ranks 13th in the NCAA East Region and 25th nationally.
Peabody, a freshman from Wyncote, Pa., captured his second A-10 Men’s Rookie of the Week honor of the season after posting a mark of 21-8.75 (6.62 meters) in the Long Jump and running the third leg of the 4x200 meter squad that qualified for the IC4A with a time of 1:27.01.
Hayward, a freshman from Wilkes Barre, Pa., set another Saint Joseph’s school record in the 400-meter Hurdles with a time of 1:01.25. That time currently stands as the fifth-fastest time in the A-10 this season, and as the top freshman time in the event. Hayward also ran the first leg of the Shuttle Hurdles as the ream clocked in at 1:03.26 in the event.
