NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Two A-10 student-athletes, Butler’s Katie Clark and VCU’s Kiara Porter, competed on Day One of the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Ore.
Competing in the Women’s 10,000 meters, Clark placed 22nd overall with a time of 35:31.07. Clark will also compete in the Women’s 5,000 meter final on Saturday evening. She is currently Butler’s record holder in both the 5,000 and the 10,000 meters.
Porter became just the fourth Ram in women's track & field history to earn a top-20 finish at the NCAA Championships. Porter clocked in at 53.17 in the 400m semifinals, good for 17th overall. Her time of 53.17 was the fourth best of her spring season and ranks as the fourth best time in school history. She was just .04 seconds away from being a USTFCCCA Second-Team All-American, with the top 16 finishers earning automatic All-American status.
