NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Charlotte's Jake Deaton was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Men's Outdoor Track and Field Performer of the Week, while teammate T'Sheila Mungo was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Women's Track and Field Performer of the Week. Anthony Campbell of Charlotte received Men's Rookie of the Week and Rhode Island's Janel Conley was named Women's Rookie of the Week, as announced by the league office Tuesday for meets competed Mar. 11-17.
Deaton, a senior, garnered Men's Performer of the Week after competition this past weekend at the Charlotte 49er Classic. The Mooresville, N.C., native placed first in both the shot put, with a throw of 18.05m, and the discus, with a throw of 55.92m.
Mungo, a sophomore, earned Women's Performer of the Week honors after competing in the 400m this past weekend also at the Charlotte 49er Classic. The Charlotte, N.C., native placed first out of 72 competitors with a time of 53.65 seconds. Mungo also anchored the 4x4 relay team that finished third with a time of 3:52.34.
Campbell received Men's Rookie of the Week after securing a second-place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 15.36m, and a mark of 6.81m in the long jump.
Conley, a freshman from Burlington, Vt., captured Women's Rookie of the Week honors after placing second in the Heptathlon at the Charlotte 49er Classic with a score of 4,557. Her score ranks sixth all-time in Rhode Island school history.
