NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – George Mason’s George Empty and Mandissa Marshall have been named the Atlantic 10 Conference’s Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Performers of the Week, respectively, for meets held March 24-30, the league announced Monday. Also honored were Rhode Island’s Nick Danner, who was named the Men’s Rookie of the Week, and Mason’s Nhautrey Brown, who was named the Women’s Rookie of the Week.
Empty, a senior from Washington, D.C., posted a personal best time of 52.06 in the 400-meter hurdles at this past weekend’s Raleigh Relays. Empty’s time currently ranks first in the Atlantic 10 and 22nd nationally. He also ran the third leg of the 4x200 meter relay that finished second among all collegiate teams at the Raleigh Relays.
Marshall, a senior from Mountain Top, Pa., placed first in the Pole Vault at the Raleigh Relays with a mark of 4.25 meters. Marshall currently ranks seventh in the nation in the Pole Vault.
Danner, a freshman from Waterville, Maine, competing in his first collegiate competition, placed first in the Javelin Throw at the UConn Invitational with a throw of 60.10 meters (197’2’’). The mark qualifies Danner for the USA Junior National Championship.
Brown finished fourth overall in the triple jump at the Raleigh Relays with a mark of 12.22 meters. The Seattle, Wash., native was the top freshman finisher in the event.
