VCU's Porter Advances on Day One of the NCAA Championships

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. –  VCU junior Kiara Porter advanced to Friday’s finals of the Women’s 400 meters after posting a time of 52.06 in the semifinals on Wednesday. Porter finished eighth overall in the semifinals to claim the last spot in the finals and earn First Team All-American Honors. Porter is the first VCU track & field athlete to be named First Team All-American since Maria Elena Calle in 1999.

Student-athletes from the A-10 will be in action on Thursday as the George Mason Men’s 4 x 400 relay team, La Salle’s Alfredo Santana (Men’s 1,500 meters), and VCU’s Jaleesa Williams  (Women’s Discus) compete.

Wednesday, June 11
Kiara Porter (VCU) – Women’s 400 meter semifinals – 8th place; 52.06 (Advances to Friday’s finals)
Jim Spisak (Duquesne) – Men’s 10,000 meter finals – DNF

Thursday, June 12
Jaleesa Williams (VCU) – Women’s Discus finals – 5:00 pm ET
Alfredo Santana (La Salle) – Men’s 1,500 meter semifinals – 7:30 pm ET
George Mason – Men’s 4 x 400 meter relay semifinals – 9:20 pm ET

Friday, June 13
David Fajoyomi (Fordham) – Men’s High Jump finals – 6:20 pm ET
