NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – VCU’s Devon Fisher has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Week for matches played Sept. 2-8, while George Mason goalkeeper Steffen Kraus was named the league’s Rookie of the Week.

A redshirt sophomore midfielder from Chesapeake, Va., Fisher helped the Rams earn a pair of results against nationally ranked teams over the weekend.  Friday against #9 New Mexico, Fisher scored the equalizer in the 56th minute in the 1-1 tie against the Lobos.  Sunday evening in College Park Md., Fisher scored the game winning goal and capped a rally that saw the Rams score three goals in the final 13 minutes to pull out a 3-2 victory over the #13 Terps.

Kraus picked up his third win of the season and recorded a shutout on Sunday as Mason went 1-0-1 over the weekend. On Friday night against Denver, the freshman allowed one goal while making three saves in the 4-1 Patriot victory and improved to 3-0 on the season. The Stuttgart, Germany native recorded his second shutout of the season on Sunday against Binghamton as the two teams played to a 0-0 draw. Kraus played an excellent game, recording four saves to keep the Bearcats off the scoreboard.
