NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Two-time defending champion and third-seeded Xavier (13-1-5) outlasted a tenacious sixth-seeded Dayton (11-5-2) squad to advance to the 2012 A-10 Championship semifinals, Thursday afternoon at Charlotte’s Transamerica Field.
After playing 110 minutes, including two extra sessions of scoreless soccer, the two teams were forced into penalty kicks to decide who would advance in the A-10 Championship. The Musketeers prevailed, 3-2, to earn the program’s third-straight semifinal appearance.
With the win, nationally-ranked Xavier moves on to face #2 Saint Louis in Friday’s first semifinal game at 5:00 p.m.
