NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Saint Joseph’s Tim Lazorko has been named the Atlantic 10 Men’s Soccer Player of the Week, while Duquesne’s Kadeem Pantophlet was named the Rookie of the Week as the league announced is final weekly men’s soccer awards of the 2013 season.
In a weekend in which the Hawks needed to win both matches in order to make the postseason, the Philadelphia native tallied five points in two matches to lead the Hawks to their first Atlantic 10 Championship Tournament nod since 1994. In Friday’s 3-1 victory over George Washington, Lazorko assisted on the first tally of the match as he hit senior midfielder Jimmy Reilly on a throw-in and Reilly headed the ball into GW’s net for the 1-0 lead. Up 2-0 in the 57th minute, Lazorko gained possession off of an assist from Mike Glazer, carried the ball up the field, and beat GW’s goalkeeper one-on-one to extend SJU’s lead, 3-0.
A native of Tiel, Netherlands, Pantophlet scored the game-tying goal versus then second place George Mason in a 1-1 tie with the Patriots on Firday. He then scored the game-winning goal versus then second place VCU in a 3-0 victory on Sunday. Pantophlet leads the team in goals with four, all of which came in A-10 contests.
