DAYTON, Ohio --  Timmy Mulgrew’s golden goal 34 seconds into overtime sent second-seeded George Mason into the finals of the 2013 Atlantic 10 Men’s Championship with a 3-2 victory over third-seeded VCU Friday evening.

Mason (12-2-4) will take on the winner of Friday’s second-semifinal between top-seeded Saint Louis and fourth-seeded La Salle. With the loss, VCU drops to 11-7-2.

Dennis Castillo got the Rams on the board first when he collected a deflected free kick in the box and was able to put the ball past Mason keeper Steffen Krauss and put VCU on top in the 18th minute.

George Mason got the equalizer in the 27th minute when Zach Herstek headed home a cross off the foot of Julio Arojona.

The match remained tied through halftime and until the 64th minute when Ryan Harmouche tallied a score to make it 2-1 Mason.

VCU was able to level the match with just over 10 minutes to play when a Nate Shiffman corner kick was deflected in the box and found the head of Kharlton Belmar who tied the match.

In overtime, Herstek took the ball to the right side of the field and was able to place a crossing pass right to Mulgrew for the game-winner goal.

George Mason out shot VCU 17-14 and held a 5-4 edge in corner kicks.  Krauss made three saves for George Mason, while Andrew Wells made a pair of stops for VCU.
