RICHMOND, Va. – Sixth-seeded Massachusetts netted five straight penalty kicks to advance to the Atlantic 10 Conference Women's Soccer Championship semifinals over third-seeded Saint Louis after 110 minutes of scoreless play forced the shootout in Thursday’s second quarterfinal. The Minutewomen will face second-seeded La Salle at 5:00 pm Friday for a chance to play in Sunday’s finale.

The Minutewomen scored on all five penalty kicks from Alyssa Fratarcangeli, Jen Coppola, Megan Burke, Brittany Moore and Julia Weithofer against Billiken goalkeeper, Hanna Benben. Mary Wright, Lindsay Elking, and Abbey Stock each found the back of the net, while Saint Louis’’ second shot from Shaney Sakamoto went off the left post.

While each team had plenty of opportunities, the majority of the game was a battle for possession in the midfield. UMass registered 18 shots, including three on goal, while Saint Louis finished with nine total shots and one goal.

Saint Louis’ best chance came in the first overtime on a shot on goal by Cristina Rodriguez, but it was handled by UMass goalkeeper, Danielle Kriscenski.

With the decision, UMass advances to the Atlantic 10 semifinals for the first time since they lost in the finals to Dayton in 2011.
